Thinking about changing up your eye color? Air Optix Colors by Alcon are monthly contact lenses designed to enhance or completely transform your natural eye color while keeping your eyes comfortable throughout the day. At Simply Eyes Hawaii, we carry the full Air Optix Colors line and can help you find the shade and fit that works best for you.
12 Shades to Choose From
Air Optix Colors come in twelve shades that range from subtle enhancements to bold transformations:
Pure Hazel, Honey, Green, Blue, Gray — warm and cool natural tones that work beautifully across a range of skin tones and natural eye colors.
Brilliant Blue, Gemstone Green, Sterling Gray, True Sapphire — deeper, more vivid shades for a more dramatic look.
Brown, Amethyst, Turquoise — earthy and jewel-toned options for something outside the everyday.
Not sure which shade suits you? Dr. Sherry Wong can walk you through the options during your fitting and help you choose colors that complement your skin tone and the look you’re going for. Many people like to try a few shades before committing to a supply
What Makes Air Optix Colors Different
Air Optix Colors use Alcon’s SmartShield Technology, a thin protective layer built into the lens surface that helps resist deposits and keeps lenses feeling fresh longer. The lenses are also made with a high-oxygen-permeable silicone hydrogel material, the same platform used in the non-colored Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde lens, so your eyes receive plenty of oxygen even with the pigment layer in place.
Each lens features a 3-in-1 color technology, blending three zones of color to mimic the natural patterns found in the iris. The result looks more realistic than older generation color contacts, which tended to look flat or obviously artificial.

Do Air Optix Colors Come in a Prescription?
Yes. Air Optix Colors are available for people with nearsightedness or farsightedness (sphere prescriptions). If you have astigmatism, Air Optix Colors are not available in a toric design, so Dr. Wong may recommend an alternative color contact option that fits your prescription.
If you have no vision correction needs at all, Air Optix Colors also come in a plano (0.00) power, making them accessible for cosmetic wear as well. Keep in mind that in Hawaii, as everywhere in the U.S., contact lenses require a valid prescription regardless of whether they correct vision.
Monthly Replacement Schedule
Air Optix Colors are monthly replacement lenses, meaning each pair is worn for up to 30 days and then discarded. Within that month, lenses should be removed and cleaned nightly with a multipurpose or hydrogen peroxide solution. Sleeping in them is not recommended, as overnight wear increases the risk of eye infections and corneal complications.
Monthly lenses typically offer a lower cost-per-wear than daily disposables, though they do require consistent cleaning habits. If you prefer a lens you can simply throw away at the end of each day, we can discuss daily color contact options at your fitting appointment.
Getting Fitted at Simply Eyes Hawaii
Color contacts require the same fitting process as any other contact lens. Even if you already wear contacts, a separate fitting is often needed to confirm that the Air Optix Colors lens sits properly on your eye. The fit of a color contact can differ slightly from your regular lens because of the opaque pigment design.
At your appointment, Dr. Wong will assess your corneal curvature, lens centration, and movement to ensure the lens is positioned correctly so the colored portion aligns over your iris. A lens that decenters can look off and may also affect your vision clarity.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Alcon formulates several shades specifically to show up on darker eye colors, including Brown, Honey, and Brilliant Blue. Results vary depending on the individual, and Dr. Wong can give you a realistic preview during your fitting.
No. The colored portion of the lens is designed to cover only the iris, leaving the pupil zone clear. When the lens is properly centered, your vision should be unaffected by the pigment.
Color contacts are generally appropriate for teenagers who are already wearing contact lenses and have demonstrated good lens hygiene habits. If you are unsure whether your teen is ready for contacts, a consultation with one of our eye doctors is a good starting point.
Pricing depends on your prescription and the number of boxes. We can go over cost and any applicable insurance coverage at your appointment.
Living in Hawaii, your eyes are exposed to sun, salt air, and water more often than almost anywhere else. It is worth making sure any contact lens you wear, colored or not, is well-fitted and appropriate for your lifestyle. If you spend a lot of time outdoors or near the ocean, we can also talk through habits that help keep your lenses comfortable in those conditions.
