Frequently Asked Questions – Simply Eyes Hawaii

👁️ Eye Exams & General Visit Questions

How long does an eye exam take?

A comprehensive eye exam typically takes 30–45 minutes, depending on whether you need dilation, contact lens evaluation, or additional testing.

Do I need an appointment?

Yes. We highly recommend scheduling an appointment so we can reserve time for you with one of our doctors.

Are you accepting new patients?

Yes — Simply Eyes Hawaii is happily accepting new patients of all ages.

What happens during a comprehensive eye exam?

Your eye exam includes a vision check, glasses prescription, eye pressure measurement, retina and optic nerve evaluation, and screening for glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, diabetes, and more.

Will my eyes be dilated?

Yes. Dilation is recommended for most patients, especially first-time visits, diabetes evaluations, or medical eye concerns. Your doctor will decide based on your needs.

Can I drive after dilation?

Most people can drive safely with sunglasses, but some feel light-sensitive or blurry up close. If you’re unsure, bring someone with you or wait until dilation wears off (usually 3–4 hours).

Do you see children?

Yes! We provide pediatric eye exams for children, including back-to-school vision checks.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Please bring your vision and medical insurance cards (if applicable), your current eyeglasses and contact lens boxes (if you wear contact lenses), and a list of your current medications; if you’re unsure of your insurance coverage, we recommend contacting your carrier before your visit.
