Our Honolulu Eye Doctors

Serving Honolulu Families for Over Four Decades

Simply Eyes Hawaii has its origins in Kaimuki, where the late Dr. Lawrence Yamamoto first opened his optometry practice. He subsequently joined two fellow optometrists to form a group practice at the Ala Moana Shopping Center before establishing his own independent practice in the Ala Moana Building in the 1980s. In 1983, Dr. Daniel Yamamoto — no relation — joined the practice, and by 1987 had taken over as sole practitioner, building Ala Moana Eye Center into one of Honolulu’s most trusted names in eye care.

Dr. Tracie Inouchi joined the practice in 2002, and in 2025 she and Dr. Sherry Wong took the reins — relaunching the practice as Simply Eyes Hawaii and moving to a new home at the eleven50 building on S. King Street near McKinley High School.

That founding commitment to personalized, unhurried care remains at the heart of everything we do today.

Three Doctors. One Practice. Better Care.

At Simply Eyes Hawaii, our three optometrists bring complementary expertise — specialty contact lenses, medical eye care, dry eye management, and ocular disease co-management — giving patients access to a breadth of knowledge that’s rare in a single independent practice.

With three doctors on the team, we’re also able to offer availability that larger, busier practices often can’t. Whether you’re dealing with a sudden change in vision or just need to get your keiki seen before school starts, we’ll find a time that works.

And over time, you’ll build a real relationship with your doctor — someone who knows your history and is invested in your long-term vision health. No rotating staff, no starting over.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Bring a photo ID, insurance cards, your current glasses/contacts, and a list of medications.

Do you offer exams in Cantonese?

Yes — Dr. Sherry S.Y Wong speaks Cantonese and is happy to assist.

Do you have solutions for digital eye strain?

Yes. We prescribe options including Hoya iD Space/Screen/Zoom, Sync III, and customized computer lens designs.

Do you see children?

Yes — we see kids and offer myopia control options like MiSight® 1 day and low‑dose atropine.

How often should I get an eye exam?

We recommend a comprehensive eye exam every year for most adults and children. If you have diabetes, glaucoma, or other eye conditions, more frequent visits may be advised. Regular exams are the best way to catch changes in your vision and eye health early — often before you notice any symptoms.

What’s the difference between an optometrist and an ophthalmologist?

Optometrists are eye doctors trained to examine, diagnose, and treat a wide range of vision and eye health conditions, and prescribe glasses and contact lenses. Ophthalmologists are medical doctors who specialize in eye surgery. At Simply Eyes Hawaii, our optometrists handle the full scope of primary eye care and co-manage surgical cases with ophthalmologists when needed.

Do you see patients with diabetes or glaucoma?

es. We provide diabetic eye exams and glaucoma monitoring as part of our medical eye care services. Early detection is critical with both conditions, and we work closely with your other healthcare providers to coordinate your care.

Do you offer same-week appointments?

In most cases, yes. With three doctors on our team, we typically have availability within the same week for both new and existing patients.

What if I need a same-day or urgent appointment?

Call us at (808) 949-2662 and we’ll do our best to accommodate you. We understand that eye concerns can’t always wait.
